The NCEPC-SD is pleased to welcome:

Panel discussion, lead by Cory Grant (Grant Partners), featuring Michael Whitton (Troutman Pepper), Don McDougall (Grand Tradition) and Robert Peterson (La Jolla Management) to discuss:

Employee Retention for Family Businesses and Family Offices: What to do When Key Talent has the Wrong Last Name

Cory Grant of Grant Partners as he leads a panel discussion with a business owner (Don McDougall), a CFO of a family office (Robert Peterson) and an attorney (Michael Whitton) who has been involved with a number of deferred compensation agreements. The panel will take a deep dive into the specific plans adopted by the businesses and the rationale behind the choice of plan design as well as funding options. Whether you are an event business or a large real estate investment firm or any business in between, attracting, retaining and rewarding key talent is an issue for virtually every business owner in this post Covid world. This should provide the advisor with a solid understanding of deferred compensation alternatives and their application to the clients they serve.

During the discussion, you will:

  1. Hear how family business owners have adopted retention strategies that don’t require giving up equity
  2. Look at Family Office compensation strategies that have worked for multiple generations
  3. Discover estate planning opportunities to help your clients who are involved in these plans.
  4. Look at Insured vs. non-insurance-based options both from a company and employee standpoint
  5. Hear about the top ten mistakes our panel has seen and how to avoid those pitfalls in advising your client.
